Le Gendarme à New York plot

Ludovic Cruchot became a local celebrity in Saint-Tropez when he managed to snag the thieves who had robbed the Annonciade museum. Watched 'La Grande Vadrouille' a while back, also a comedy with the Funes, and wanted to see more of that man.

Had this DVD lying around and quickly set it up. Didn't know it was a series, but I don't think it's necessary to see them in order. In any case, there were no ambiguities. Maybe a joke was missed here and there, but no more than that.

Unfortunately, it wasn't nearly as great as the former title. Jokes are often repeated and that yelling will come out of your throat after an hour.

Fortunately, there is every now and then reason to laugh and the film is good to sit out. I'll have to wait and see if I'll see more films by this French comedian. You have to be in the mood for it...

This is a super fun movie. The storyline is much simpler than its predecessor Le Gendarme de Saint-Tropez (1964) , but it works just as well. Laughing at the crazy American situation from the point of view of a bunch of wonderfully naive French gendarmes. In my opinion Le Gendarme à New York has a little more momentum than its predecessor, but I don't think it's necessary to choose; they both have their charm.
Comic highlights abound here, but I'll mention the West Side Story parody - including the taking over of a few measures of Bernstein - with clever choreography, in addition to the pre-psychedelic dream of de Funès. Also striking is the jazzy score, which is of course tailored to this urban adventure, and the eye for New York photography. Very successful part of the series, for lovers of this kind of nonsense.

Personally I thought this was the lesser part in the "Gendarme" series, I didn't like the setting that the group went to the big USA.

Nice to have seen an x but certainly not a great one
