Le Gendarme Se Marie plot
During the summer, the Saint-Tropez brigade opens the hunt for road pirates. Cruchot is enthusiastically participating in this venture. While chasing a car, he commits several traffic violations. He has to appear in court and can hardly prove his identity. By accident, Cruchot finds the road pirate again and it turns out to be the widow of a colonel of the French gendarmerie brigade. Much better than the craziness in New York, if only for the fact that we are back on familiar territory. Again, there is no real story, but the various sketches are, although sometimes a bit bland and not always too high-quality very entertaining.
Claude Gensac is a good and very charming addition to the cast, but also Louis de Funès and Michel Galabru are both in great shape here.
The film may not quite reach the level of Le Gendarme de Saint-Tropez, but it is otherwise just a light-hearted and very pleasant comedy and also one of the best in the series.
Also a compliment for the music that fits very well with the images.
A big three stars.

Wonderful comedy! Laughing from start to finish. Pretty much the only yardstick for me to judge these kinds of films. As the series progresses, I also get more and more into the characters and it gets more and more fun. Really enjoyed Louis de Funès again, who treads thin ice both privately and professionally, with Claude Gensac as his fiancée and deputy chef Michel Galabru as sparring partner respectively. The funniest scenes concern the courtship of the Funès in interaction with the other gendarmes, as well as of course the whole promotion exam. Hilarious is the introduction of the computer (in its sixties) that has to supply information about the candidates by means of a punched card. In between there are references to Charles De Gaulle as well as Napoleon.
It also seems that this film had a firm budget at its disposal, judging by the spectacular chase in the finale, which also involves de non again. After all, it is also a film where swinging sixties lovers can get their money's worth. Filmed in 1968, we are actually still in the psychedelic era that is colorful enough to please a colorblind person. Top.

In the third part of this hexalogy, Louis de Funès finds his strongest opponent: Claude Gensac. He plays Cruchot again as a careerist with a short fuse and a Napoleon complex. He flies in his indomitable style against subordinates and violators of the law, but when confronted by the attractive widow, Madame la Colonelle, he instantly turns into a bigoted, submissive lover with his head in the clouds. . The two women in his life, fiancé and daughter, soon conspire to keep the authoritative gendarmerie on the home front under control. Geneviève Grad shows herself in fashionable suits. In a side plot, he competes with Michel Galabru for promotion to adjutant chief.
There is verbal, physical and visual humor. When the gendarme kisses his mistress, you see the electricity. When he gets demoted, he is suddenly literally smaller. There are misunderstandings and disguises. For a moment it becomes a travesty air when the fugitive crook dresses up as a woman. Wordless scenes are the exam and the chase with the nun. The sunny music and the Mediterranean background create a holiday mood.
