Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day plot

"One day can change everything."

11-year-old Alexander experiences the worst day of his life, a day that begins with gum in his hair and is followed by a series of unfortunate situations. When Alexander shares the details of his unhappy day with his family, they are quite unsympathetic. He begins to wonder if bad things only happen to him. However, he soon finds out that the rest of his family is also plagued by unlucky bad days. Anyone who says bad days don't exist hasn't had one yet.

The longer the title, the thinner the content, it seems. Pretty miss. Think this is supposed to be a kind of feel-good movie that you should be able to laugh at, but this is nowhere near the point. Insignificant, weak and unclear story with some funny scenes attached. I'm a bit of a fan of Carell (and Steve himself doesn't do a bad job here either), but this one definitely belongs to his lesser films. A children's film that even children can't enjoy. With two and a half stars for a few funny moments and Mrs. Thorne, I'm a real benefactor.

Standard, predictable, but at the same time very nice! It's about exactly what you expect crammed together in a short running time and child actors who know how to act! I'm actually starting to become a fan of Steve Carell, I didn't like him at all in Evan Almighty, but since then I've seen many strong roles from this man, the joy of playing not only splashes from him in this film but with the entire cast , I can certainly appreciate this.

Nice in these serious / difficult times, nice distraction!

3.5*

After a disastrous day, Alexander [Ed Oxenbould] can't bear to see his father [Steve Carell], mother [Jennifer Garner], brother [Dylan Minnette] and sister [Kerris Dorsey] seem to have had a perfect day. Moreover, they seem to be much more interested in his little brother Trevor [Elise Vargas] learning his first word than in Alexander's birthday party, which threatens to go completely wrong. Alexander wishes them to experience a 'terrible, horrible, no god, very bad day'. A lot of chaos and slapstick is the result in this gaudy take on Freaky Friday, but the enthusiasm and fun of the cast keep it entertaining.
