Films where dogs play the main role.... You have more bad copies of them (from my childhood K-9, Turner & Hooch) than good ones. However, a few years ago I regained hope when I saw the excellent Hachi. This Max is fortunately in line with the latter.

Successful film, which is especially moving in the first part without being over-sentimental. In the second half the film unfortunately drops off a bit because too much attention is paid to the side story about a gang of thugs, giving you the idea that you are watching a slightly too violent children's film. But all in all an unexpectedly pleasant seat.

For lack of anything better, last night I had to make do with this cliche and predictable Adventure / Family movie (seen on the television channel "Film 1"), which revolves around the war dog (Malinois) Max who returns home traumatized when his owner in Afghanistan turns life comes.

Although the story (also a tribute to war dogs) is quite a dime a dozen, full of clichés and also quite predictable, this film still managed to entertain me and sometimes even move me (especially in the first 30 minutes of the story). But yes, you soon get that when a film revolves around a touching animal and especially if you have a soft spot for animals like me. The story is well put together and besides the fact that the story revolves around the dog Max, it is also about friendship, family (especially the Wincott family), love and criminals. The last two items are a bit bland and certainly the hassle between the children Justin and Carmen. There is also a bit of action here and there (eg dogfights) and although the ending was of course very predictable and clichéd, it was still quite nice.

The cast did well and also includes a well-known actor and actress in the form of Thomas Haden Church (as father Ray of the Wincott family) and Lauren Graham (in the role of mother Pamela of the Wincott family), the latter now has become a firm mature woman. Lead actor Josh Wiggins (in the role of 14-year-old Justin Wincott) also did quite well, but the real star in this story is of course the dog Max.

All in all, it was nice to have seen this Adventure / Family film, but nothing more, because it is all a bit too bland and too cliché for that.

Max is the hero in this successful family youth film.
Quite adventurous and entertaining with the serious link to clandestine arms trafficking from the military.
Film emphasizes the value of such army dogs and their loyalty to their handlers.
