“Fourth place at your first meet? That's not too shabby.”

“Fourth out of four; also known as last place.”

Feel good Disney movie. I usually appreciate these kinds of films, and McFarland, USA has also become another sentimental sports film with strong acting from Kevin Costner and the other actors. Predictably, this story about a group of Latino kids who cross country and overcome many problems together, only to eventually win the State Championship, radiates an irresistible positivity. Sometimes delicious.

McFarland, USA is a thoroughly American family film, in which sport is used to prop up a disadvantaged Mexican community in the pace of peoples. It's a feel-good film pur sang starring Kevin Costner in one of his best roles ever.

The story is based on true events. In addition, the filmmakers have deliberately chosen to use the black pages, which precede the story, are left out of the picture.

Video that just came up on the BBC that I thought let's give it a try. The story was unknown to me, the title in that sense too, but this was more than appreciated.

Fairly cliché story of a short-tempered coach who ends up in some hole, has little perspective, but nevertheless accidentally discovers talent and has it at his disposal. The thresholds to be overcome and the youth who must be able to convince are just as standard. But the most important key points do revolve around acceptance and prejudice. Around the White family who start to feel at home and be accepted in the midst of the mainly Latin American-speaking population. Scenes such as with the chicken, what to do, keep or eat are precious. Also humorous how he eventually scrounges the team together.

It's predictable, and of course there's a hiccup in the way that puts everything in jeopardy, and for a moment White seems to have almost forgotten everything he's learned before, but of course it will all work out in the midst of the friendly locals. Something beautiful is being made of the house and White has a family that rarely, if ever, complains. Of course it's all very feel good, and of course a lot will be exaggerated, but it doesn't matter much to me. The mix is right and McFarland USA can therefore be called an engaging and fun film.
