After a false start, I experienced this second season of You as particularly pleasant. The formula of season 1 is done over again, but in terms of story it is slightly less convincing and original.

Yet everything remains just entertaining and enjoyable enough. The main advantage is the predominantly convincing acting, the high tempo and the necessary humor. In terms of romance, it was quite disappointing. The main problem with this was that new addition Victoria Pedretti was not convincing enough and is actually the only weak link of this season in terms of acting.

Season 3 is of course coming up again and for the time being I haven't given up.

I found the first seven episodes quite tiring to get through. Everything seems like a replay of moves and my doubts about making a second season seemed completely justified. Miraculously, the last three episodes manage to straighten things out.

The whole season suffers from unbelievable things, but it is still nice when Forty keeps Joe in episode 8 more or less captive until his script is finished. That will help with the tension. The subsequently chosen Hangover-like approach also works quite well. Finally, the series has another plot twist in store for the viewer. As unbelievable as it may be, it ultimately makes this season stand out from the previous one. I also have to give my compliments to Penn Badgley. He knows how to play his character in such a way that, despite all the atrocities, you still have to deal with him. In that regard, Joe Goldberg may have some common ground with Walter White in some way. The other characters are actually pretty good too. In terms of acting, it's pretty good.

Somehow this feels like a somewhat redundant season, because the level of season 1 is not achieved and it could have been fine in the end. On the other hand, the fact that Love turns out not to be so innocent actually ensures that I still have faith in the upcoming third season. I'm sure you don't have to become a long-running series for me. I got the impression several times that the rack is already starting to get out of here.

3*

At least some nice new characters added. The acting doesn't stop there, but Forty in particular is a nice addition. Love, on the other hand, is a walking (acting) disaster. Furthermore, this season has little to do with content, all elements from season 1 are taken out again and endlessly repeated. Elements that were fun before, such as the cage, become too familiar and therefore boring. Most storylines start out nice but get bogged down in a messy accumulation of implausibility. The continuous flashbacks to Joe's childhood are very annoying and really add nothing. Typically another series with the Netflix syndrome: at all costs, several seasons have to come, even if the creativity and inspiration are lacking to make them worthwhile.
