What to Expect When You're Expecting plot

"It's too late to pull out now"

The film is a modern look at love through the eyes of five couples who are bound together by the ups and downs they experience when expecting a child. Eventually they will be confronted with the universal truth: whatever one plans, life does not always bring what one expects.

ensemble.

But a very large ensemble. There are simply whole groups of characters that could have been completely removed from the film (such as the men's trips). The first half hour is therefore spotting familiar faces, with a high number of "where do I know them from?" moments.

The humor is limited and rarely funny. Quaid then has a nice character and Rebel Wilson is always nice, but otherwise it is very good and very predictable. Despite the fact that the film switches between different people all the time, it doesn't feel very varied, so that the bit of drama never really gets off the ground.

110 minutes is on the one hand too long for this film, on the other hand it is difficult to shorten it, at least not if you do not want to sacrifice actors. There is a nice scene here and there and every character has a funny moment, but as a whole it really means very little and after a while it starts to drag. In addition, there is also a lot of waste in terms of scenes. The whole adoption in Ethiopia made no sense, for example.

Not really great this.

Phew.

In the future I will really have to let such films pass me by. A lot of famous names and faces pass by, although every minute of acting by eg Cameron Diaz or Jennifer Lopez is a minute too much. The number of successful jokes and pranks is again sadly low, although it can always be worse, surely?
