The film tells the story of the young novelist Sidney Hall over a span of twelve years in three different stages. Sidney falls in love and then writes a great book that makes him world famous. This puts him in a downward spiral that ruins him. Finally, he disappears without a trace.

Just watched it, no idea why this movie is being criticized!!
Beautiful film, played very realistically. The structure of the film is different, but that also gives a broader dimension to the film. This shifts the weight of the story line towards the end.
I think it's recommended for people who find a standard drama film too boring.

My curiosity about this title was mainly aroused by the fact that it was praised on Letterboxd, IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes, while it was praised on MovieMeter. This is also one of the only American titles ever with a relatively good cast that I was never able to peanut butter despite its 2017 release due to the lack of peers. I left it on the shelf for a long time for that reason, but yesterday I decided I'd had enough and bought it through Amazon Prime Video. That really was a very good decision: what a hidden gem this is. From the start, this film captivated me with its beautiful images, credible acting and sublimely chosen music. The story also really attracted me. It is a mystery to me why this title gets such bad reviews.
4.5 stars.
