My Sister's Keeper plot

"A tale of life, love, and letting go."

Kate (Sofia Vassilieva) and Anna (Abigail Breslin) have a bond that is closer than most sisters: Although Kate is older, she is dependent on her little sister. Her life is even in Anna's hands, because she is a 'donor baby', a child who was born to give body parts to her sister when she needs them. Anna decides that this can no longer go on and arranges a lawyer. Sara (Cameron Diaz) is a loving wife and mother who has given up her career as a lawyer to take care of her daughter. She sometimes loses herself in her role as the devoted caregiver she has become in her struggle to save Kate. Their only son Jesse (Evan Ellingson) feels invisible while Kate and Anna get all the attention.

moving.

Watched this movie a while ago with some other people that brought tears to their eyes. I don't cry very easily myself, but I will admit that I did have a brick in my stomach for a while. Some scenes are very strong.

Breslin didn't always come across as overwhelming and that's a shame because I know she can act very well. And Diaz wasn't always that good either. But mostly the acting out there was fine.

The film builds itself up pretty well for a moving ending scene and it's that scene that makes this movie give me this score. Normally I don't like it that much but this was nice. An excellent recommendation.

Drama with a capital D. But it works, partly because of the good acting. The plot is a bit far-fetched, but it does leave room for fascinating scenes. Diaz is faced with the most challenge, namely to convey a somewhat one-dimensional character credibly. She succeeds in this but believable or not; the mother remains a somewhat one-dimensional character. Opposite this are the beautiful characters of little sister, big sister, brother, father, judge and aunt. The film is made with an eye for the beauty in people. That makes it a must.
