I Can't Think Straight plot
In the upper echelons of traditional Middle Eastern society, Reema and Omar prepare for the wedding of their daughter Tala. But, back at work in London, Tala runs into Leyla, a young British Indian woman, who is dating Tala's best friend Ali. Tala sees something unique in the clumsy, sensitive Leyla, who secretly pursues a career as a writer. Tala directly challenges Leyla in everything she believes in and this begins a process of self-awareness for Leyla. The women fall in love, but Tala's sense of responsibility and cultural reticence cause her to withdraw from Leyla. Tala returns to Jordan, where preparations for a showy wedding are in full swing. As the wedding day approaches, more and more family members arrive and eventually Tala can't take the pressure anymore and calls off the wedding. In London, Leyla's heart is broken, but she learns to break free of her own inferiority complex and her mother's expectations. She dumps Ali and is honest with her parents about her sexual orientation. When Ali and Leyla's sassy sister Zara reunite lovers Tala and Leyla, Tala learns that her own prejudices about love are the last hurdle she must overcome to win Leyla back.
