The Thaw plot

"Extinction will find you."

Points deducted for that exaggerated evangelistic eco-crash. They couldn't resist even a chat. Very irritating. Otherwise an ok video. It is a bit difficult to get off the starting blocks, but once the eggs have been discovered, it gets pretty up and running. Parasite horror is always a good idea for me. Very nasty, those wounds, to give the shivers.

Effective enough for a good 90 minutes, although there was probably more fear to be gleaned. Not much is done with the location, the soundtrack is of no added value (what was that crazy music when that arm went off?) and the students are on the dull side. Bland ending, but hey, that was in it.

Fall Kilmer on autopilot, a bunch of bland other actors who have to play bland characters in a slightly uplifting way and an ecological message (save the Earth, otherwise the bugs will eat us): does this make a good movie? Not really, but in the end it is all intriguing.

In that respect, the film is most reminiscent of The Thing with the constant search for who is infected and who is not. It is not all very exciting, but it is atmospheric and the gore can certainly be there . Too bad that you have to use that horribly ugly CGI for the critters themselves and the few moments when some fire was visible (the helicopter explosion was very laughable).

Whether the ecoplot can be taken seriously I still don't know, but at least it's an attempt at having a starting point. It's a shame that it gets so pedantic at the end, that makes the film unintentionally hilarious. Still, it was pretty good to sit out because of the atmosphere and the critters themselves, which were still quite freaky in their effect. Not high quality, but nice for once.

Reasonable film in which the "singer" from the film The Doors (1991) plays, (the actor Val Kilmer) who plays the role of the father of a girl (Evelyn) and head of a scientific group conducting research in Antarctica. In the process, they discover something that could mean the end for humanity.

Evelyn comes to Antarctica with a group of students to help with the investigation, but they soon learn that the situation has changed for everyone. With the melting ice and the thawing of permafrost, things are released that we as humans prefer to keep out.

In this film, the scientists and students are confronted with something horrifying.

Not really high quality and not in-depth in the matter, but not a bad film in itself.

A 6+.
