Quite a mistake. A lot of things went wrong in post-production. They should really strip the colorist of his title, because he allows this... what a hideous look this film has been given. It still works in some dark shots, but the scenes with more light sources (particularly the sun) are dazzlingly kitschy. And while the camera work is solid, the acting (within the genre) is above average - with an urgent warning for the people who were able to shoot the screaming child from Babadook: here you have two - and one further somewhat bombastic but appropriate score. It makes for a fairly hysterical, but fortunately also clear and followable cat-and-mouse game. Unfortunately it lacks the inspiration, a more original angle and a number of better choices in the post process.

It is quite striking that this is, for example, (much) better received than The Open House (2018), which is many times more creative and has a better production value knows.

Nice horror thriller. In retrospect, the story makes no sense at all because as a viewer you initially hope for a nice twist, but unfortunately that doesn't happen. Furthermore, the effect is quite nice. The film doesn't really get off to a good start, but you soon get bogged down in a nice exciting thriller with some horror elements. The tension remains high until the end. It all remains very superficial and the choices of the protagonists are not always logical, but it is effective. The acting is also good. Not very intelligent, but effective. 3.0/3.5

Director Dennis Iliadis (or Quinn Lasher) makes off with a relatively simple scenario that was provided by Mike Scannell. An effective horror thriller doesn't need much more than a basic concept and a nice dose of well-developed tension, but He's Out There only includes the basic concept. Positive is the acting of Yvonne Strahovski and the kids, who deliver convincing roles and therefore regularly cause frustration (in a good way). Unfortunately, Iliadis does not manage to build up the tension properly, with a very disturbing, honking soundtrack in particular that destroys much of the potential horror atmosphere. Moreover, the time and rest is rarely taken to make the dark natural environment somewhat threatening, but in the end it is mainly the murderer himself who appears foolish and unfinished. In between, the film has some successful scare moments and the finale has some excitement, but the entire development in the forest hut did not appeal to me as a viewer. He's Out There is a case that relies heavily on atmosphere, but can only create half of it. Shame.
