A wonderful horror film that, as it should be, touches our deepest fears (which are again mastered in this film). It doesn't score five stars because it borrows a lot, if not everything, from previous horror classics, but it is perfectly executed in story, in gameplay, in visuals, so that the viewer, just like the main character, experiences an intense mind trip and the film from start to finish. scary and exciting. The Babadook is a contemporary horror classic that, as far as I'm concerned, can be compared to Rosemary's Baby, The Exorcist and The Shining.

Strange horror that appears harmless and perhaps too well-behaved for some, but which, when you look at it from a psychological point of view, becomes much more pervasive and gruesome.

There is a dreamy atmosphere to the film, which is emphasized in part by the camera work and excellent editing. The sometimes sharp sounds and camera movements give a disorienting feeling. It all works very well, as if you yourself are in the dream and later also a nightmare and experience it. You also experience the heavy state of mind of the mother well.

It is sometimes difficult to distinguish between what is actually happening and what is made up in the minds of the characters. Both mother and son are plagued by sleep disorders, so you quickly make the link with hallucinations and madness. The struggles that come with this are well portrayed.

In addition, much of what you see is open to interpretation and virtually no explanations are given. The horror works well because it builds on the power of suggestion and paranoia. When the monster (or their fears) really become visible, the effect unfortunately falls short because we always imagine it differently in our heads than how it appears. The sound design is strong. When you have headphones on while watching, it all comes even closer and it's really chilling.

In general, the director achieved what she wanted, although I think she could have shown a little more guts in some scenes and stayed a little less on the plain. Still, it's one of the best in the genre (if you can stick one at all) I've seen.

Classic. I've seen some ghost, horror, haunted house and similar movies over the years but finally I've come across one that fully meets my expectations of a classic in these genres. I also especially have to say that all commercial jumpscares, etc., are avoided so well here. Finally !

I really enjoyed it, sometimes even with a smile on my face just because I was so pleased with what I saw. Repeatedly re-watched certain scenes because so beautiful and well made. Everything was just right even with a very satisfying and innovative ending.

Top acting by Essie Davis and Noah Wiseman who complement each other completely naturally and really carry this film together.

This doesn't have to be part II and so on because this film has everything in it.

I don't often rate the movies on MoMe but this one gets the full blow. Comes in my top 10.

And now ? Now to bed...
