This movie came to my mind this week when I was asked 'name a movie that Diane Kruger is good at'. Apart from Maryland, this one, although it must be said that she has considerably less to do here, because this film mainly relies on the strong Lindon. Nice video, and it's not surprising that a remake has been made - maybe I should look it up, always nice to compare. As can be the case with Wicker Park, which Diane Kruger also plays in - and contrary to the usual pattern, the remake is better than the original there.

Well, I digress. So this film, it is all wonderfully smooth so that it is not noticeable that the plot might rattle a bit. Lindon, Kruger and their film child Roch are doing well, as are the supporting roles. I really liked the scenes where Julien talks to his father without words. The images are also shown in beautiful blue, without being too exaggerated and disturbing.

And hey, the story might rattle a bit, it's definitely original. How often do you see that.

Strong drama that easily compares to the best American thrillers. Perhaps a bit on the verge of believable, but Vincent Lindon is such a strong interpreter and how fascinating the film is, almost over the entire length.

Fred Cavayé was nominated for a César for best first film, but little news about this filmmaker since then.

Had first seen the remake "The Next Three Days", which I also quite liked, but I liked this original version just a bit better. Nail-bitingly exciting towards the end.
