Mediocre film about two students who spend the night together, which is the beginning of a long friendship. The film is made up of one day a year each time over a period of two decades. Partly because of this, it is quite fragmentary and it goes rather quickly, especially at the beginning. Also a bit unbalanced, but the presence of Anne Hathaway makes it worth watching.

“If I can't talk to you, then what is the point of you? Or us?”

A good film that takes a while to get into but also has plenty of flaws. Dexter and Emma's lives look a bit fragmented by focusing on one day a year and the jumps in careers (especially Dexter's) make for a somewhat alienating feeling.

In addition, Dexter is quite insufferable but the best developed character. Emma is more sympathetic but her life is less deepened and she is a bit flatter. Sturgess and Hathaway are excellent and especially Sturgess knows how to play an insufferable wingman that you get a little sympathy for. From Paris the tear ducts can open and it becomes one big emotional waterfall. The characters could have been developed a bit better so it would have had more impact, but the ending was very nicely done.

A nice idea: a rom-com that deviates from the beaten path because it remains unclear for a long time how the story should continue and how the two main characters could ever come together, and if that does eventually happen, the film will also have a separate ending . All praiseworthy and excellently performed, but Jim Sturgess does play such an unimaginably shallow, uninteresting and actually totally unsympathetic character that I can't imagine that, why and how sweet Anne Hathaway could fall for him, and that gives my appreciation Unfortunately, the film as a whole is a bit of a death knell. Of course, it doesn't say anywhere This is a rom-com, so the characters don't necessarily have to be attractive and endearing, but Sturgess is a very bad goof here.
