In the early 1970s, Delphine [Izïa Higelin] escapes the traditional values of the farming community in which she grew up and moves to Paris, where she finally dares to openly admit her sexuality when she enters into a relationship with the feminist activist Carole [Cecile de France ]. But when the existence of the family farm is threatened after Delpine's father's [Jean-Henri Compère] stroke, Delphine feels obliged to return. When Carole visits her unexpectedly, it becomes increasingly difficult to keep the true circumstances of their relationship a secret from Delphine's mother [Noémie Lvovsky]. A confrontation seems only a matter of time. Strikingly depicts the contrast of rural life with that of Paris, aided by the lively performances of Higelin and De France. The return to the countryside is a lot less interesting, partly because it is not that difficult to guess in which direction the story will develop.

Warm film about a lesbian relationship during the sexual revolution of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Fighting for anonymous equal rights for women is something different from expressing your sexual orientation in a conservative environment.

Director Catherine Corsini has made a beautiful film about that struggle with excellent performances by Cécile de France (of course) and Izïa Higelin (completely unknown to me). A gem.

Very strong in the beginning, but from about the halfway mark the narrative gets bogged down a bit too much in stereotypes. Too bad, I think, there might have been a bit more to it, although on the other hand this progression is more recognizable for those who are or were in such a situation.

In the meantime, it is teeming with very romantic and very beautiful pictures of the French countryside - in La Creuse, if I have checked the number plates properly. Almost the least populated part of France, between Limoges and Clairmont-Ferrand. I don't think I've ever been there, but maybe that's something to catch up on.
