Daniel Auteuil is of course perfect for a role like this.

Well, what's behind a newspaper report about a man who kills his family when they find out that he has been pretending to have a job for almost twenty years?

And how do you do that with money and what do you do all day when you are away from home?

Sober, but moving film.

I previously saw "l'Emploi du Temps", but although there are certain links with this "L'Adversaire" and also very well presented with Aurélien Recoing in the leading role, the film is not nearly as disturbing as this one.

The horror that emanates from the end of "L'Adversaire" goes to the bone and an actor of Daniel Auteuil's level really deserves to fill in this strikingly filmed piece.

The film does not tell the true story of Jean-Claude Romand in perfect chronological order, thus including several flashbacks so that a certain amount of attention is required to neatly organize everything. Later, when the intrigue enters the phase of suspicions, the film takes on a very clear form, increases in tension and finally ends in an astonishingly grandiose manner.

It requires very good camera work and, in addition to Auteuil, solid performances, which are mainly provided by Emmanuelle Devos, François Cluzet and Géraldine Pailhas. Both children are moving.

Excellent film about a man with a wife and two children who pretends to be a doctor. Based on a true family drama. The film is somewhat distant, but because of the incomprehensible act that works to its advantage here. Angelo Badalamenti's moody music fits perfectly within the whole. Excellent acting and a fairly compelling finale.
