"Who needs enemies?"
Michel and Claire are on their way to their holiday home with their three demanding daughters. The cottage has been neglected and refurbishing it will take up their entire vacation. At a gas station, Michel meets an old classmate, Harry, whom he cannot remember. After much insistence, he 'recognizes' this Harry. This twenty-year-forgotten friend immediately invites himself and his girlfriend for a holiday together. Harry penetrates further and further into Michel's life and lets him dance to his tune.

And finally seen this, at the time, quite successful French drama/thriller.
Former classmate Harry who very kindly invites himself, gives way too expensive gifts and ultimately meddles in your entire family life.
Slight Hitchcock traits and since it is French a high Claude Chabrol content and better than that French master has delivered in recent years.

Good film in which a man encounters an old classmate who subsequently gains more and more influence on him and his family. A rather subtle psychological thriller with a mystique and sometimes a bit strange edge (which is mainly due to the title character). The film never gets boring and the ending is strong (which a little murder isn't good for).

From the start you feel something is wrong with Harry's attitude, but it's hard to figure out his motivations. Psychologically well developed thriller. The film is thought provoking and that cannot be said of many films.
