Otherwise just a beautiful film by Hallström.

It is of course simple to score, throw in a few beautiful dogs and you are already set for many dog lovers. But A Dog's Purpose is much more than that. It is the interaction of the dogs with the actors, the relaxed music and the vast landscapes. Everything works together seamlessly and makes me crave the long walks I used to take with my four-legged friend. You can call it bold and overly sentimental, with a hilariously unbelievable ending. I don't think it's interesting at all in these kind of feel good movies. Its purpose is to make me feel good, and in that it is one of the best of its kind.

By the way, make me a horse dog too.

Pretty okay.

Expectations were also not very high, but an occasional feel-good animal movie is possible. And it must be said, this A Dog's Purpose manages to achieve its goal fairly smoothly. It's almost as if Hallström gets better with age.

The main story is a bit limited, which is why a reincarnating dog has been chosen. Also immediately solves the problem that the animals don't get that old, something that was necessary for the story. It is a somewhat strange setup (which will not be explained further), but it works.

The film also looks charming and cute, there is a bit of drama in it, but fortunately it never gets too sentimental (at least, the drama itself does, but the film handles it fairly lightly) and the running time is not excessive either. Other than that, it's all fairly predictable, but for a feel-good film that's the least of course.

Pretty nice for once. Not a great movie, but nice filler.

What a wonderfully moving film by Hallström. I think Hallström has a thing for dogs himself. Where one of his first films (Mitt luv som Hund) also had something with dogs (more symbolic, bark bark haha) and Hachi made everyone cry more than ten years ago, he came up with this film 2.5 years ago came.

I am a fan of almost all his films and he also manages to strike the right chord with a Dog's Purpose. Where he does it especially well is that the balance feels strong. The film never gets too sentimental. There is a lot of humor in the film to ensure that the film feels recognizable for people who also have (had) dogs. Every now and then you want to grab those tissues, but nowhere does the film go off the rails. The only thing that the film fails slightly in are the many storylines. Not every one is equally interesting and in the end you just want it to work out for KJ Apa and Britt Roberton's characters. And luckily, after some wanderings, the film returns there in a fun and sentimental way.
