"I found someone I like."
Whisper of the Heart is about a young girl, Shizuku. If there's one thing Shizuku likes to do, it's reading. She works through all kinds of books at breakneck speed and she can be found most often in the local library. When she once again borrows a large stack of books, she notices that in each book there is always a certain name of a young man who borrowed the books for her, a certain Seiji Amasawa. Coincidentally, she meets him. A great friendship develops between them, during which she not only gets to know Seiji better, but also herself. In this way she finds out what she wants to do in her life and she writes her first own story.

Beautiful.
But of all the Ghiblis I've seen recently, it's the most outdated. Kondo's work, although he shows a lot of talent for a first film, lacks those small details that Miyazaki and Takahata can put into their films.
Visually, therefore, slightly less than I had hoped, but otherwise a film that does justice to the Ghibli name. The nice summer atmosphere, the minimum of drama (although it is present this time it is very understated) and yet again a few moments that you can only describe as typical Ghibli.
It's a shame that Kondo never got the chance to show himself a second time, on the other hand, his death turned out to be a welcome warning for Miyazaki to slow down a bit.
Definitely worth the effort for Ghibli fans, but this film cannot really measure up to the grandmasters. That's why half off.

A beautiful love story and a coming of age story. A teenager dealing with love and ambitions. At an age where things go a little faster for some people than others, but where the essence remains that you have to work on it yourself and that it just takes time. A nice Ghibli, although the studio has also made it better. Fortunately, it is Ghibli's craftsmanship and it is just as beautiful to see with appropriate music and a fascinating story. With accompanying fantasy that takes you on a beautiful journey.

Fine Ghibli who only occasionally drags. Visually delightful - I love this kind of animation set in today's big city anyway. The drawn buildings, but also daily affairs (supermarkets, kitchens, products) become magical when they are drawn so beautifully and in detail. Some moments in the film are also very nice. But despite all those good points, the film didn't always captivate me. I found the main line in particular less interesting and the tempo drops off too much every now and then. 3.5*.
