The Golden Compass plot

Lyra Belacqua lives in Oxford in a parallel universe. Here the souls of people are visible as animals following them everywhere. In children, the so-called daemons can still change shape. One day she overhears her uncle discussing a new physical element: Dust. This element has the power to unite worlds, making it both coveted and hated by various parties, including the Magistrate. Lyra embarks on a journey to the element, and must battle demons, ghosts and other creatures, armed only with a magical golden compass.

Film became less interesting by the minute. It starts off nice, but what follows is a bit messy in a world that will never come alive for me, even though it all looks nice. In any case, I couldn't go along with it and that made the film not interesting for me. And that's two long hours afterwards. The actors (many big names) just wander around and the child actor is not always as convincing when she has to show emotion. The cgi of the beasts is just awful. 1.0*.

Truly another stupid movie. Even for a fantasy this is sometimes too crazy for words. Admittedly, the story was well thought out but extremely amauteristic and bruised. Again, even for a fantasy.
The landscapes and "daemons" are nicely done. But the characters, Richards is boring and hard to stand, despite her enthusiasm. Green and Craig also mainly put themselves on the spot.
Also a very boring finale. The film was anything but interesting to watch. I don't need to hear the name Lyra anymore for the time being. What an annoying and clever character. Who even thinks of that. Not even interesting for a fantasy.

Horrible. All the clichés in terms of fantasy adventure films are there, good vs evil, gathered troops, narrow escapes, swelling strings, stiff acting, everything survived, etc etc. It is more of a children's film. And an 'abrupt' ending which leads to part 2 and by then it was almost 2 hours. The only plus is clear: it looks beautiful. And I liked the daemons. Also far too little entertaining.
