Nice nature film ditto documentary that I saw several times in my youth. Still a very immovable portrait of a little bear who, after the death of his mother, has to struggle against the dangers of nature and try to be self-sufficient. The locations are breathtaking with the mountain peaks, vast forests and babbling brooks. The human characters are negligible and fortunately not entirely murderous hunters.

The real stars are the bears. Here too an authentic portrait of what bears actually do. The big male bear is also a real movie star because he has some other films to his credit such as The edge, Legends of the fall, White Fang, ... L'Ours is a moving film with a combination of cruelty and the splendor of wqt nature can offer.

Only stranger might be the frog nightmare and hallucinations the little bear has. There's something magical and mysterious about it, but it took me out of the movie for a while. His sounds also seemed strange to me at times. A film with a Bambi content, but one that is very successful. Beautiful!

Impresses.

Annaud's ode to nature has become a fascinating film in which a bear cub goes into the great outdoors after the death of its mother and is taken under the care of another adult bear. There are not only the dangers of nature itself, but also man has been a threat for centuries. L'ours is actually a complete film with adventure, suspense, romantic romance (yes!), friendship and a message. The film tries to make us aware of how fragile and defenseless animals are, and how it pays more to just leave nature alone. The wilderness is extremely beautiful. I only found those bear dreams and hallucinations a superfluous and clumsy element, but otherwise this is a masterpiece. The film has been worked on for years, including for the dressage of all animals. And the Oscar for best bear goes to...

1988.

Just moved from the province to Amsterdam, and this movie in Tuschinsky - on the opening night, and it was sold out. I sat in the front row somewhere in the middle.

And yes, that bear is really big. Everywhere, above, below, left and right. That made quite an impression, and the quite impressive tree he shakes while scratching his back too.

In the revision more than thirty years later, it is all a little disappointing. The bear is a bit smaller on my TV at home. And yes, the little bear is just too cute, but you can also see that the role of the little bear is played by a group of ten or so little bears. And the story is a bit thin.

That begs the question - couldn't Annaud have made a documentary better. Isn't this film just a failure - because there are quite a few examples that have succeeded much better. Well, maybe not with a couple of grizzlies. The way I watch movies now, I'm not at all impressed.

But the bear is too cute
