X2 plot

"The time has come for those who are different to stand united."

When an unknown, presumably a mutant with extraordinary powers, attacks the president, the mutants face even more suspicion and discrimination than before. There is wider support in society for a registration requirement for mutants. Military leader William Stryker is one of the strongest proponents of this plan, and is leading an attack on the X-Men academy. The escaped Magneto begins a remarkable partnership with Professor Xavier to stop Stryker. Meanwhile, Wolverine begins an investigation into his past.

X2 is at least as good a movie as the first part. Where X-Men put the train on the rails with an admittedly fairly simple plot, this X2 happily elaborates on that. X2 is above all more spectacular and much more intense full of suspense and action. Action that certainly succeeded with countless explosions and new characters. It is always nice to see new gifts. That pyromaniac, for example, only looked like a dangerous man and Magneto can't be trusted either.

Once again, the battle and fear between the human and the mutant is central. It was very confronting to see how Ronny's parents reacted to his "being different". The fear and disgust dripped from it, as if it were a disease from which you might be cured. A metaphor that can count if you draw the line to today's “outcomes”.

The movie starts off great in the White House, but all the other scenes were great as well, such as the one at school, the confrontation with the alter ego of Wolverine, the Mystique character tout court and just keep going. I only found the bad guy a bit pale. Little charisma and a bit dull looking. On to the next part! In any case, one of the series that I do like within the superhero genre. Nice!

A huge leap forward after part 1. It starts with a slightly exaggerated attack by Nightcrawler as a kind of elusive ghost that can dodge everything and everyone and who is therefore a not really appealing (because in fact unbeatable) opponent, but then unfolds a compelling plot with excellent action (I was particularly impressed by the haunting nighttime attack on the school), a few nice surprises (Mystique crawling into Wolverine's tent! ), a nice unpleasant villain (Brian Cox, always good) and a nice complicated climax with many characters who all have their own role and function, with great FX as the icing on the cake. And Berry's wig is also a lot better for her. Excellent action/SF movie.

How does it feel bub?

And on with the next X-MEN. And not a bad one in this case, and also a few years old.

The story, the X-MEN as so often, under accusation and attacked. And this time led by a vengeful army officer, whether consciously/unconsciously aided by mutants with evil in mind. Stryker, a name that was often used in the cartoon as well as a multitude of different new mutants, not always known from the cartoon but from the comics themselves. Did Stan Lee pass by in this one? Not seen, at least in the previous one.

Besides the longer playing time and the great story, part 2 stands out because of the many action, spectacle and special effects. And damn, it all looks picobello. Of course, the age of 18 has to be taken into account again, but the outbreak of Magneto, the many fights in which Mystique is involved and the situation at Bobby's parental home look fine. Just like the often-named festival of recognition, the many well-known characters and a well-known opponent like Stryker and his scary son. Add to that an excellent cast and the issues around Jean (Phoenix) coming in earlier in the movie than in the cartoon, but moving forward. Add to that some humor and sharp one-liners from Wolverine and you have a lot again.

X-MEN 2, also called X2, can rightly be called a great successor and comes a lot closer in terms of story and spectacle to what everything is based on. And yes, just like the previous one, 'this never bores' also applies to this one. The best of the series so far.
