"Take a stand."

Meanwhile, Magneto tries to rally an army of mutants to destroy the cure, and Charles Xavier and his mutants discover that Jean Gray is back. But she's not quite herself.

Escaped the tropical heat last night in an air-conditioned cinema room. And at the last minute we can catch X-Men 3 too.

Quite nice entertainment in itself, but I really think this one is the lesser of the 3 X-Men parts. What I miss is especially the atmosphere and the cool mutants that made the first two parts into good viewing food. In that respect, part 3 is really much more of an action and spectacle film. And although the ending can also be called quite spectacular, I don't think the film is a clear star in the genre. Think too many concessions have been made to make this a big blockbuster. Still good for 3 mutated stars.

And on to part 3, a film I actually didn't know much about, and a film that seems to be working towards a grand apotheosis and only partly succeeds in it. In fact, the film seems too eager to impress and therefore loses a bit, especially at the end.

Strong is the beginning with the origin around Jean, just like her return and all the problems surrounding her character. The Rise of The Phoenix was regularly a big topic in The Animated Series and at the time, around the second film, I was very surprised that they played this trump card so early. The story with the means is reasonable, the multitude of well-known characters and, for example, the simulation with the sentinel are better. The sentinels were also a common enemy in the animated series.

Nice is the usual cameo from Stan Lee , Jubilee is not very prominent, but in itself we have the introduction of Juggernaut, Beast and one X-Men from the very beginning, Archangel. Ben Foster still has a young face there. The action and spectacle is at times grandiose, especially the scene in Jean's parental home is phenomenal, but the Golden Gate can also be there and the atmosphere especially around Jean regularly stands out as dark and grim.

Goes well you would say. Contender for best X-MEN movie to date, you almost think. And the answer to that is yes and no. Because up to Alcatraz, The Last Stand makes an excellent impression and then actually loses itself a bit in a not so interesting mess during that final battle. The film seems to want to impress with a warzone between three parties and actually fails to do so at all. The stakes are the child with the gene, the parties fighting for what is best for them, the human being somewhat in between.

It is exactly that final phase that pulls X3 down a fraction compared to X2. Nevertheless, this never gets boring and this trilogy is wonderfully entertaining. Still, the best yet remains X2.

Reduced from a 4.5* to a 3.5*. Average equal 0.1 point decreased. And quite rightly so. Least part of the trilogy, but still entertaining though. First and last seen about 12 - 15 years ago. Was interested in it again.

The negatives... no Scott (slim death), Mystique (not a fair ending), Roque and little Xavier. Jean's limp return (by a jet in the water). A cool new side of her character to see.

Instead we get Ellen/Elliot Page. Who didn't even participate in the first two parts. In this part she doesn't add anything, hardly any background and we hardly get to see her powers. Only at the end did I see what she could do and what powers she had at all. And it wasn't until much later that I noticed that she's replacing that kid who walks through walls.
