Struck by a meteor shower, a transport ship, carrying the life-threatening prisoner Riddick, must make an emergency landing on a remote and lifeless planet. However, when an eclipse plunges the planet into complete darkness, the survivors of the crash are confronted by the planet's monstrous inhabitants who know only one enemy: light. Their only rescue turns out to be Riddick, whose special eyesight allows him to see in the pitch dark. But will you put your fate in the hands of a murderer?

What starts out well as a fairly original SF movie ends in an action/horror with clichés and that's a shame. Visually it goes from very high to very low: the eclipse is beautiful, with the colors gradually getting darker, I found the blue and orange filters rather annoying. Vin Diesel is also a cliché; tough and retarded but well, you can already know that in advance. Too bad Carolyn had to die; she was the strongest character in the movie . Small 3*

Excellent SF action film that with its 20 years can still pass, entertained and above all contains a fine role for Diesel.
Great first half hour where the ship crashes and the survivors initially consider themselves lucky. Riddick initially stays in the background, and plays nicely in the first instance with his escape and the possibility of whether they will benefit from him or he is the danger. The latter seems obvious to lay down...
The cast is fine with Hauser as the shadowy Johnns, Mitchell as a power woman and eye candy, but Diesel in particular is excellent and has found his calling in a role that fortunately does not contain too much dialogue. The atmosphere and especially the music is nice, Johnns stands out with some very sarcastic remarks to Riddick who has nothing to lose and is therefore as down to earth as a glass of water. Then there are a number of beautiful shots and moments with well-built tension. When Carolyn is looking for Zeke, there are some nice shots underground, so they often work in a beautiful way with shadow and light. Still, the film finds its flaws in a number of poorly edited fight and action scenes.
Pitch Black is a wonderful road viewer with a pleasant atmosphere, a sympathetic bad guy and especially for 20 years old excellent effects. Just nice.

Good above average action movie. The story is simple and the action is always predictable. Acting performances are good without a doubt. I'm not a big fan of Vin Diesel but he does it right here. Aliens look like flying dinosaurs and their attacks especially save this movie. Just put your brain to zero, chips on the table and get lost in the movie for a fun movie night. Just not 4 stars
