Transformers 6 is a weird subtitle. This is not a sequel, it could possibly serve as a prequel (but part 1 is not entirely clear to me in terms of timeline and what had already happened on Earth) but the film is and feels mainly like a reboot. Without Michael Bay, back to the 80s (the film is set in the wonderful year of 1987), more focused on the characters and the fun and with Transformers that all look a bit clear. Prime also shows the front of the truck on his chest, and most of them are mainly 1 color rather than a jumble of metallic paints. In the previous films, many of those things were hard to tell apart. This makes everything look much more like the animated series of the past.

Not that this is otherwise world cinema, but it is by far the best film in the series and also the best. In any case, the direction is striking with occasional fun moments. The wonderful choice of music (a bit cliché, but still), a great cut to an alarm clock or a nice moment with music in the back where the scene plays next to a roller coaster and just like the guitar the rollercoaster comes racing along. All very fresh ideas. The action is also fine on screen and certainly CGI and sound are great, although that was more than fine in the previous films.

But this film has a heart with a nice Steinfeld (I'm secretly in love with that anyway) and much more value and eye for people and less for soulless action. Not everything is great though. The humor is really hit and miss, although it never gets terribly bad. Furthermore, in terms of story and themes, it is also a bit cliché, and that does the film no good, other than the typical choice of music. But all in all, there really could be more of this. And oh, be crazy, 4.0*.

Obviously not Bayformers this. And you notice that especially in the action scenes. At Bay it was all big, fast and a lot broke. You noticed much more the impact of metal cans ramming and shooting in the area. But Knight takes a completely different approach.

Outside of the opening scene, the action, like the story, remains small and close together. Bumblebee and Charlie complement each other as she has a 'coming of age' momentum and Bumblebee rediscovers herself.

The Transformers are made with great attention to detail and the action scenes are easy to follow due to the small character and use of color, so much more in the style of the 2007 Transformers film than the later parts where that aspect was occasionally lost sight of. . Don't get me wrong the magnificence of Bay's action climax in the last part of The Last Knight is nowhere to be found by Knight but that is not necessary in this story either.

What is noticeable is that there has been a different writing team this time. With a clear assignment to demolish some aspects of the previous parts. The humor is almost entirely different and it works wonderfully. For the fans of the Bay parts, there are some nice easter eggs hidden in it. If you want to compare Bumblebee with other movies I would almost call it a mashup of Pete's Dragon (the live action), Transformers 2007 and some Iron Giant. And from a comic aspect it resembles the quieter episodes from the 80s and somewhat like the more recent Spotlight series (from IDW).

Too bad that Bumblebee doesn't get much cinema attention, this small variant has enough right to exist next to the city-destroying action of Bay.

This one was on TV recently and just watched this part as well. I've only watched the first part of the series, but I was still able to follow. The beginning was a bit strange, because it immediately started with a big fight.

After that the pace was slowed down a bit and there was still a great story. The cast did a good job and visually it was very well made. Also a nice soundtrack.

It is certainly not a film that you have to think a lot about, but it quickly looked away.
