Except for the scene where Patton is impersonated, this is a particularly annoying film. If Cletus had yelled 'I am the Bandit' one more time, the TV would have gone out the window. Leave this one alone, people!

1*.

My god what a retarded intention was this third part of Smokey and the Bandit. In terms of level and humor it was not much inferior to an average Bassie and Adriaan episode. The advantage of an average Bassie and Adriaan episode is that they are short, while this film lasts about 80 minutes. For a film that is quite short, but for this film it is simply far too long and also pure torture.

The story, the humor and the execution (a few car stunts are still nice) are so lame/bad and childish as anything. And the same goes for the cast with the low point Burt Reynolds lookalike Jerry Reed (including moustache and hat) as the 'Bandit'. But then a 'Bandit' with anorexia, my god did he look bad. In the first part of Smokey and the Bandit Jerry Reed had a nice supporting role as the truck driver, but here in the role of the 'Bandit' he is just scandalously bad. There are also a number of dragons of a women in this film who play a leading role such as Colleen Camp (she would belong in a trailer park) and Faith Minton (she looked like a transsexual).

The only one who manages to save this film a little is Jackie Gleason with his nice role as sheriff "Buford T. Justice". But he too was far on his way back in this film compared to the first two parts. No, this miserable third part should never have been made.

During the breaks at work and the battle with this Smokey and the Bandit part 3 where we already saw the first two. And the colleagues were despite my objections eager to see this part too whereupon after completion last Thursday it was admitted that we should have stuck with just the first film.

And for the third time we go wild with Bufford T. Justice, Big and Little Enos and...uhm no Burt Reynolds? No, no Reynolds but Jerry Reed who this time gets to stand in for the Bandit instead of the truck and even dresses like one, moustache and all. Well, shoot me, the film is done for at that point anyway without the Bandit, how hopeless! Add to that a wafer-thin story about a bet between Enos and Justice in which the stand-in Bandit is involved in passing to make it a bit exciting and that's it.

Of course there is the usual chaos and chases, there are quite a few funny moments and there is actually one very good scene with the Klu Klux Klanners chasing a bunch of colored chicken farmers and it has to be said that it is hilarious. But otherwise, despite Colleen Camp as eyecandy, this is still a hopeless film that should never have been started and that cannot even stand in the shadow of the already mediocre second part.
