After the rather nice first part of "Smokey and the Bandit (1977)", which was also a success at the time, there had to be a sequel. And that is what happened with this film. The good thing about that is that the cast has remained intact with Burt Reynolds, Sally Field (always nice to see at the time) and Jackie Gleason, but the bad thing is that the story is very bland (originality is also hard to find) and also completely doesn't know how to captivate and that Burt Reynolds also visibly didn't feel like it anymore (he only wanted to cash in and didn't like co-star Sally Field either). It is also a pity that the terrible never funny Dom DeLuise has been added to the story. That guy never actually adds anything in a movie and his humor is often so bad to cry. The only thing that keeps this movie going is once again the nice role of Jackie Gleason as "Sheriff Buford T. Justice".
Nice to have seen, shall we say, but it would have been better if they had only kept it with the nice first part.
