Disappoints. I thought the so-called "bad guys" were rather cowardly, at least they aren't real badasses. The actors do their best but somehow it didn't work, so I thought the joker was just a weak copy of what we've seen before. In addition, I was bothered by the special fx / cgi, because it doesn't always look good and the music is way too thick on top. I'm not a comics fan so I liked that we got to see the background stories of the "bad guys", which is a plus, unfortunately the rest of the story is not too interesting and quite cliché. And then the fact that they are controlled by an old woman with a cell phone completely ruins the movie. Not worth enough.

Ayer anyway.

Although you probably shouldn't look too much at the directors with these kinds of films, because they are just in their straitjacket. Not that I feel sorry for it, they probably earn enough from it and they simply choose it themselves, but there is rarely anything to say about their directing qualities in these kinds of films.

Suicide Squad seemed to be able to differentiate itself from other superhero movies by featuring a bunch of bad guys as main characters. Unfortunately, these bad guys are not really badass enough and the bickering between them feels too much like you're watching an Avengers movie again. But then with the lights off.

Smith's character is a real downer, with too much sentimental stuff that takes the fun out of it almost immediately. Harley Quinn is annoying as hell, Robbie is also doing really bad as a so-called crazy bitch. I've actually forgotten the rest, except for Leto who impresses most in a supporting role as The Joker. Although I wouldn't want to see a whole movie with him, it feels too forced for that.

After an exaggeratedly long introduction, a fairly simple A->B case follows that shows little remarkable. Some mutual tensions and ultimately a fight that doesn't really impress. Visually it doesn't look very interesting (also really terribly edited, it sometimes seems like you're watching a 2-hour trailer) and the soundtrack is again a collection of random classics. Just because it should.

Apparently it's very difficult to put together a half-decent film in this genre. But it's not really surprising, given the giant companies that are behind these films and are really just looking for a successful formula to earn a lot of money. The film itself is a by-product, that's how it feels when you watch it.

1.0*
