I thought Earth was a wonderful documentary. The rest of my family felt the same way, and thought it might be nice to pick out a Blu-Ray of the same kind of movie with a newly purchased Blu-Ray player in your pocket.
That's how we ended up at One Life. As I have learned, a summary of the Life series. In itself it fits in well with the beautiful Earth, only here the emphasis is more on the similarities between different animals and their roles in society than on a collection of as many beautiful pictures as possible and raising the problems in the environment. Yet One Life also produces some breathtakingly beautiful pictures. Topics such as territorial behaviour, love and rivalry are discussed in detail.
What One Life does very well is make all the different animals and locations one whole. You get the feeling, as is also shown, that we all have similarities. As a result, it does not become a mess and there remains a cohesion. The transitions from one life to another are also handled in a good way. I questioned some of the sound effects whether they came from nature or from the computer, but in itself it was still manageable.
It's always difficult to rate these kinds of documentaries. You can't rate a story or acting. What you see is reality and it's just incredibly interesting. Every animal knows how to hold your attention. Whether it is a young elephant or an ant colony. One Life is an intriguing spectacle, which makes me strongly consider watching more of the BBC Earth creations.

One life is a nice sequel to Earth with even more animal fun. The difficult thing about such films is that you cannot make agreements with animals, cannot direct them and therefore have to make do with the skills of a strong crew that has to be both technical and knowledgeable about animals. That's why I always have a lot of appreciation for such documentaries. Especially when the quality of the images and the beauty of what we get to see is as good as in the BBC Earth series. And One Life is certainly not inferior to this. Good looking!
