Fallout plot

Series based on the popular video game series of the same name, set in a post-apocalyptic world illustrating the United States of the late 1940s, after a nuclear war in 2077. This world is packed with robbers, mutants and Vaults, from which pre-war survivors come to colonize the new world. This harshness of the deserted land contrasts itself with the utopian image of the 1940s, where the previous generation idealistically looked at a possible better world where nuclear energy would be used to the fullest for good.

I completely agree with Clockwork72. I am also a huge fan of the game franchise, and you come across so many recognizable things that are also well made. The “walking sound” of The Knight of the Brotherhood for example, or the pip boy, The Ghoul (great role by Goggins), the outside world. You simply experience it optimally. Moreover, the acting is also excellent. 5 stars from me.

Games not played other than vaguely remembering the characters.

At first I thought it was very catchy: super original storyline and characters, intriguing story, fun style, gore, also subtle hints that you consciously pick up and think dafuk. We then go on a journey with the protagonist and thus come into contact with the world. In the beginning it is very refreshing and interesting, but it starts to fall apart halfway through. It feels like a kind of main quests with side quests, but nothing feels urgent or necessary. Then we also get a macguffin thrown at us. The annoying about American music bothered me too. There is some action, but it is all very simplistic and adds little tension to the story, especially when certain characters have a gimmick.

After that, a kind of side story emerges, which is somewhat interesting, but in the end the denouement is also very disappointing, with almost the entire last episode being explanations and mainly people telling things.

6/10, but unfortunately it just wasn't really my thing.

What a wonderful series. I came across the series by chance through a free 3-month Prime Video account from KPN. I don't know the video game, but that wasn't important for enjoying the story and characters. In addition to violence, horror and sometimes even romance, the series is peppered with humor. The contrast between the vault inhabitants and the radiation-affected and destroyed upper world makes it fun to see. Just like the inventions that have been made since the world was almost destroyed by nuclear war in 2077. The adorable year-old uniforms of the vault residents, the flashbacks to the film set in the 1940s, the desolate upper world, the sweet artificial underworld, the mutants and so on, make it fascinating from start to finish.

The actors do very well. They play the characters with verve. As vault dwellers, they are good, frumpy people with the appearance of 1950s movie stars. And as inhabitants of the upper world they are rough, and sometimes completely crazy. The actors also seem to really enjoy their work.

And the music is so atmospheric and well chosen. On Prime Video you can find a list of the music used.

Hopefully the video game for enthusiasts is as good as the series. In any case, in my opinion it is the best series of 2024 (so far).
