The White Lotus is a villainous comedy that pokes fun at the American dream. Creator, writer and director Mike White (Enlightened) tells the story of a number of wealthy, affluent guests who take a week-long vacation at a luxury resort in Hawaii. With speed, humor and sharp social criticism, White sketches a false, Disney-like fairytale world. Including 'authentic' Hawaiian entertainment program, which contrasts nicely with American decadence.
All characters are colorful. Especially teenage daughter Olivia (Sydney Sweeney) and her friend Paula steal the show. They represent the young woke generation, fond of philosophers and Freud. But meanwhile, none better than the generation they oppose. How recognizable!
Not everything works in The White Lotus. The storyline surrounding the ashes of the deceased mother of one of the guests (particularly in episode three), is bland and slow. Also the music, praised by many, sometimes gets on my nerves. Surely the intention. Nevertheless, The White Lotus is a refreshingly modern, dark and colonial fairy tale, in which a white witch (m/f/x) is lurking in every hotel room.

It is striking that this season is rated better here than the first.
Still very entertaining in itself, but the last episode in particular felt messy and rushed.
Coolidge's magic wore off quickly for me too, the joke is gone. And in the last episode it just got painfully bad how she was acting.
Still, I thought the first season worked better as a whole and there were more fun characters there too.

I hardly dare to say it, but I didn't like it. Looked into it because of the many positive reviews. Couldn't even laugh a bit about it, thought it was rather bland, and usually not that fantastically acted. Found a lot of people on Rotten Tomatoes who weren't crazy about it. Saw this series a while ago after the Norwegian series Exit, it is of a completely different level, a lot funnier and a lot better acted, no this is not for me ....
