Intrigerende serie die destijds als erg origineel, vernieuwend en erg goed werd beschouwd en vele prijzen heeft binnen gesleept. Erg leuk is natuurlijk het real time gegeven. Alles gebeurt echt in 24 uur. Natuurlijk wordt hier wat mee gesjoemeld, maar het is een erg leuk gegeven. Helaas zijn sommige verwikkelingen niet erg interessant om te volgen en duren daarom sommige gebeurtenissen net even wat te lang. Zo krijg je een beetje het gevoel alsof het wat sleept. Vooral de perikelen rondom moeder en dochter had ik zo af en toe even genoeg van. Jack's onderzoek blijft dan wel weer erg leuk om te volgen. Hoe hij alles uitzoekt en in welke hachelijke situaties hij allemaal terecht komt en de hele conspiricy ontrafelt is erg mooi gedaan. En naar het einde toe lijkt dit eerste seizoen eindelijk zijn momentum te herpakken wat het ook in het begin had en zorg voor nog enkele zenuwslopende afleveringen en een einde dat je nog zeker heel lang bij blijft. Ook technisch gezien hoogstaand natuurlijk. Best veel actie, mooie locaties en het fantastisch gebruik van de split screens en de editing die van een ongekend hoog niveau is. Moet zeggen dat het camera werk eveneens fantastisch is. En dan hebben we nog de belichting, die ook van een hoog niveau is. Je denkt er tijdens het kijken misschien niet echt bij na. Maar bedenk maar eens hoe de dag verloopt. Van nacht naar schemer en helder zonlicht en weer richting donker. De filters en de belichting zowel in de binnenlocaties tot de buitenlocaties. Indrukwekkende serie waarvan ik hoop dat de pacing van het tweede seizoen iets beter gaat zijn.

Intriguing series that was considered very original, innovative and very good at the time and has won many awards.

The real time data is of course very nice. Everything really happens in 24 hours. Of course there is some cheating with this, but it is a very nice fact. Unfortunately, some complications are not very interesting to follow and therefore some events take just a little too long. This way you get the feeling that it is dragging a bit. Especially the vicissitudes surrounding mother and daughter, I now and then had enough.

Jack's research is still very nice to follow. How he sorts out everything and in which predicaments he ends up and unravels the whole conspiricy is very nicely done. And towards the end, this first season seems to finally be picking up the momentum it had in the beginning, delivering a few more nerve-wracking episodes and an ending that is sure to stay with you for a long time to come.

Also technically high of course. Quite a lot of action, beautiful locations and the fantastic use of the split screens and the editing that is of an unprecedented high level. Have to say that the camera work is also fantastic. And then we have the lighting, which is also of a high standard. You may not really think about it while watching. But just think how the day goes. From night to dusk and bright sunlight and back to dark. The filters and lighting both in the indoor locations to the outdoor locations. Impressive series that I hope the pacing of the second season will be a little better.

Omdat aburefan mij had aangeraden om deze serie te gaan kijken, ben ik hier een tijdje geleden maar eens aan begonnen en daar heb ik zeker geen spijt van. Als eerste mogen we best zeggen dat Jack Bauer 1 van de beste personages die de tv wereld heeft voortgebracht. Hij bezit alles. Met emotie en op sommige momenten meedogenloos gaat hij te werk. Echt een top prestatie van Kiefer Sutherland. Maar ook David Palmer is een fantastische personage en reken ik ook zeker tot 1 van mijn favoriete personages. Erg sterk gespeeld door Dennis Haysbert. De serie bevat best veel actie, maar het verveeld nooit. De verhaallijn van Jack en David zijn het meest interessant. De verhaallijn van Teri en Kim beginnen naar een aflevering of 8 toch behoorlijk te irriteren. Jammer, want dit had totaal niet gehoeven. Iets minder screen time was ook goed geweest. De serie is zeker niet voorspelbaar en is op sommige momenten lekker hard. Een prima seizoen. Van mijn kant 4.0*.

Because aburefan recommended that I watch this series, I started this a while ago and I certainly don't regret it.

First of all, we can say that Jack Bauer is one of the best characters that the TV world has produced. He owns everything. He works with emotion and at times ruthlessly. Truly a top performance from Kiefer Sutherland.

But David Palmer is also a fantastic character and I certainly count one of my favorite characters. Very strongly played by Dennis Haysbert.

The series contains quite a lot of action, but it never gets boring. The storyline of Jack and David are the most interesting. The storyline of Teri and Kim start to irritate quite a bit after an episode or eight. Too bad, because this wasn't necessary at all. A little less screen time would have been good too.

The series is certainly not predictable and at times is nice and hard. A great season.

Eerste seizoen van de actie-serie 24, waarin de gebeurtenissen zich in real-time afspelen. Dit gaf de serie wat extra’s en maakte van 24 een groot succes zowel in Amerika als daarbuiten. Kiefer Sutherland maakte na een reeks flops op het witte doek, met deze serie zijn grote comeback (zij het op het kleine scherm). De serie was zo’n groot succes, dat er nog 8 seizoenen volgden. Dit eerste seizoen is zeker een goede start, zij het dat de serie nogal veel plotwendingen heeft, waarvan er een aantal behoorlijk ongeloofwaardig zijn. Naar het einde toe ontspoort het verhaal helaas een beetje. Niettemin speelt Kiefer Sutherland een goede rol en is de serie spannend van begin tot eind. In de bijrollen zien we onder andere Dennis Hopper verschijnen als de terrorist Victor Drazen.

Kiefer Sutherland made his big comeback (albeit on the small screen) after a string of flops on the silver screen. The series was such a success that eight more seasons followed. This first season is certainly a good start, albeit that the series has quite a few plot twists, some of which are quite unbelievable. Unfortunately, towards the end, the story derails a bit. Nevertheless, Kiefer Sutherland plays a good role and the series is exciting from start to finish.

In the supporting roles we see Dennis Hopper appear as the terrorist Victor Drazen.
