Very nice movie. Almost special in its unusualness, a nice nonchalant impression of the atmosphere in the west. Also very light in tone, partly due to the short length this really feels like a snack that doesn't really stick anywhere. But great game, nice atmosphere, good decors that all feel real. Excellently entertained, but the ending left me completely cold, that's the best summary. 3.5*.

A western that in my memory mainly excels in effective sobriety. With a great

Peck, dry and almost grumpy. The action is quite limited, but you are always mesmerized

watching an almost psychological western, Peck's character is tired of being

status as a reputed gunfighter, ready for mental retirement. Peck, with his well-known net worth

of a hypothermic acting, perfect for this role. Karl Malden's lively role as a fawning bartender should also not go unmentioned. With goosebumps at the final scene.

Although my expectations linked to the title of the film were not met at all, I think this is a great film. Except for the intro and finale, it is almost a kammerspiel. Gregory Peck is rock solid in every scene as the infamous Jimmy Ringo, haunted by his reputation. A film in which the psychology of Peck and opponents plays a much bigger role than mere action. It is wonderful to see how Henry King and his team depict the psychological network of the typical village with its inhabitants. All feelings are addressed by various characters in the craziness that is caused by the arrival of Peck. Sensation, greed, resentment, love, friendship, envy, fear, benevolence, admiration, indignation, you name it. All this worked out through captivating dialogues with some appropriate moments of humor intertwined. I even found the finale touching.
