Nice short western by Almodovar. The second short film by the Spaniard after the human voice, which was released a while ago. This western was apparently shot under extremely hot conditions in a piece of the Spanish desert. Although the decor doesn't get that much screen time.
Fun and immersive. The chemistry, although there is very little time to build it, between Hawke and Pascal is right from the start. After 25 years, both gentlemen see each other again, they also find each other again, but it also becomes clear why they lost each other in all those years.
Too short to really impress, my only flaw is that he didn't make a feature film 
. No doubt Pascal and Hawke could have handled that and kept it interesting.

Standard plot about a sheriff [Ethan Hawke] who has to arrest his best friend's son [Pedro Pascal] for murder. A moral dilemma that is quite standard in the western genre and is given a brief elaboration here, with the only twist being that the two protagonists are not just friends, but lovers. Implicit homosexuality in westerns is much more interesting than explicit one, but Almodovar apparently thinks differently about that. It is that the two protagonists still manage to make something of it. In the 1930s, Republic filmed these kinds of stories on an assembly line.

No idea what Almodóvar wanted with this. This is a film that needs a bit more length. It is all so short now that there is never any rhythm in the film, even those 30 minutes are a bit boring and the film also manages to leave little impression. Visually a bit boring too. The most beautiful shot is in the closing credits with those horses and that blowing dust. It's not all that bad and the acting is reasonable and the decoration is okay, just like the central theme, but the execution is a lot less. 2.5*.
NB: We like to see a 30-minute film in the cinema.
