Michael Harding returns home after a period of military school. Once at home he sees that his mother is very happy with her new boyfriend, but Michael doesn't trust it completely. A thriller that reminded me of Disturbia (which I've seen before) but The Stepfather was very disappointing. It is more of a standard type of thriller, in which the possibilities are hardly used. Not much happened, there was little tension and so this film puts the aspect more on the psychological level. Too bad about the tension, I would have liked a lot more for this thriller.

Nice video.
Dylan Walsh is perfectly cast as the emotionless stepfather. Whenever I see Walsh I think of Congo. The silly doctor. He shrugs off that character.
The story is simple. Dad moves in with a new family, and then things happen that aren't quite right. I also really liked the opening of the movie.
It could have all been a bit bloodier with a bit more gore, then the film could certainly have distinguished itself. Now it's nothing more than a nice snack.

Mediocre. It is immediately made clear to us that the stepfather is no good, but we have to wait a very long time for the other characters to find out too, and that while the stepfather is quite clumsy; he doesn't even have his backstory in order. In the meantime he also commits some other murders, which he easily gets away with. In short, it all doesn't feel very credible and that comes at the expense of the tension. Not much inspiring acting, so I can't do much with this film. 1*.
