The 39 Steps plot

"Handcuffed to the girl who double-crossed him"

Shots are fired during a theatrical performance, after which a state of panic arises. Richard Hannay is approached outside the theater by a strange lady, who tells him that she is a British spy. Not much later she is murdered and Hannay is the prime suspect. He flees into the Scottish Highlands, chased by both the police and the cronies of an international spy network. His movements are severely restricted by the fact that he is chained to the beautiful blond Pamela, who believes he is the murderer.

Nice film by Hitchcock again, but I'm not used to that old one. 'The 39 Steps' is full of scenes that have been replayed a hundred times - once again you can see that Hitchcock has been the founder of a lot of things in movies. Very nice. Furthermore, this print is simply very entertaining and it looks very nice for a movie from the 1930s. Beautiful black and white shots of the Scottish highlands, nice atmosphere and a nice build-up towards the end. Robert Donat has a nice role. Had a great time.

Nice film by Hitchcock from 1935. Thanks to the tip from Rogerthornhill (who wrote a great review himself) I bought this film and watched it.

The film excels in beautiful scenes, beautiful camera work and strong dialogues. The best scene for me was the chase through the Scottish highlands. The script is also well put together, although the plot twists are often unrealistic (Important spy conversation open in the entrance of an inn that just happens to be overheard by the skeptical Pamela eg).

Finally, certain scenes (eg in Scotland) from the film gave me a strange nostalgic feeling about a time far before mine. Kudos to the late Hitch for this!
