"Innocence Ends."

India Stoker (Mia Wasikowska) was unprepared to lose her father Richard (Dermot Mulroney) in a tragic car accident. However, the resulting loneliness and tranquility on the family estate are suddenly disrupted by the arrival of her uncle Charlie (Matthew Goode), who she didn't even know existed. When Charlie moves in with her and her emotionally weak mother Evie (Nicole Kidman), India thinks the void left by her father's death is finally being filled. But soon after, the suspicion arises that the mysterious, charming man has ulterior motives. But instead of getting angry, she becomes more and more captivated by him...

Stoker had been on my watch list for quite some time. The actors, the trailers, and the plot, however little was revealed, attracted me. Recently the time has come and my expectations have partly been fulfilled.

The strongest point was definitely the atmosphere. There's a lot going on under the skin while it looks unnaturally polished on the outside. This quickly creates a tension that the events have only a minor influence on. I also found the music, the editing and certainly the acting positive. Goode and Wasikowska definitely have chemistry and the film has some nice scenes, including the one with the pencil.

I find it harder to put my finger on what I don't like about this movie. I really disliked the scene in the shower, and after it became clear that Charlie has been under lock and key for all these years the quality of the film goes down for me. The events become more and more spectacular but also less believable for me. Charlie is suddenly no longer mysterious but only weird, and India also becomes less fascinating. Too bad, because during their scenes together (especially those behind the piano) there was always a fascinating tension between the two.

All in all, Stoker is not the film I expected, although it certainly has some very strong points. Too bad my expectations were too high, but I don't mind seeing this movie once.

A film in which everything and everyone falls into place.

Because, everyone complements each other well here. The script gets a good director who in turn gets the best out of his cinematographer and editor. Miller has written a good script. However, it is Park who makes the story something very special. It is always exciting when a good non-American director makes the switch to America. And luckily Park succeeds in this. Not only does he tell the story really well in narrative form, but also lets the images, music and sound tell the story. Everything remains fascinating and you want to know how the story will continue and how everything will end. And that is one of the strongest points of the film. Going too deep into the story is pointless. This is really a movie that you have to experience for yourself.

Acting is very strong. Wasikowska has convinced me in some recent films that she is a very good actress. It will show so much more in the future. Goode also did very well, but I had the feeling that at times he held back in his performance. Kidman has done better.

Visually this is absolutely wonderful. Such beautiful shots, Stoker has fantastic editing. Some transitions are beautiful. For example, India walking on the highway that turns into the path to her home is one of those beautiful transitions. But the much-mentioned hair that turns into grass is also very beautiful. Music is very atmospheric. Sound design is also very important here. It's as if all our senses are heightened while watching Stoker. Nothing but praise for the costume design. Everyone looks great in their clothes.

Awesome movie.

“He used to say, sometimes you need to do something bad to stop you from doing something worse.”

Superb film by Chan-wook Park. The directing, the camera work, the fantastic images, the acting, etc. Everything contributes to an atmospheric but above all stylish film. From the first insanely beautiful scene you are watching a movie to die for.

The images speak for themselves, but that doesn't mean the story is left behind. The opening scene already says a lot about where the story is going, but I was still really surprised at some of the twists and turns and what Park comes up with. Superb acting also by Wasikowska, Kidman and Goode, all three of whom can handle Park's idiosyncratic vision. Wasikowska in particular, as India, has to undergo an important character development, and she does that admirably. The ending is a beautiful piece of cinema (both visually and story-wise). Go see that.
