To be honest, I'm a bit surprised at the lukewarm voices on this film. I do agree with the sometimes strange jumps that this film made. Suddenly we were a month further without any reason and every now and then the editing was not great, so that some scenes were not entirely clear. But to burn this film down for that is going too far for me.

I thought it was quite a fascinating spectacle to see how the relationships and especially subcutaneous tensions lay between the rich elite and the bulk of the poor or less well-off part of the population. In the first place with the performance of Rolando himself, where many guests simply ignored him, as if he just wasn't there when they passed. It was painful how they just literally stuck their heads in the ground…

The civil uprising and riots were technically and visually well done, partly due to the excellent acting. The role of the police and the army is dubious and total anarchy reigned. At times hard images at the cold-blooded executions. It is a film in which I can imagine something about the apparently stable, but explosive dual society in many Latin American countries.

The wedding of wealthy Marianne [Naian González Norvind] and Alan [Dario Yazbek Bernal] takes a turn when an old servant [Eligio Meléndez] begs Marianne's mother Pilar [Patricia Bernal] for 200,000 Pesos for his wife's surgery, worked for the family for many years. Although Piral and Marianne are sympathetic to the old man, Marianne's brother Daniel [Diego Boneta] tries to brush off the man. He probably shouldn't have done that because shortly afterwards the servants turn things around when an armed outsider breaks in and takes the wealthy elite. The satirical premise is far from original, especially in the horror genre, but all in all it's not badly done and there are a few shocking moments.

The promising beginning, where a young bride has much more social feeling than her rather haughty, indifferent family, suddenly has to make way for terrible violence, looting and murder.

From then on it is for the viewer to wonder where the main line of the story is. The structure is mediocre and the whole incoherent.

If the filmmaker's aim was to show how social contradictions can lead to hatred and anarchy and that even government agencies cannot be trusted either, then he has succeeded.

Would have expected something different with a rebellion in the background, but this is of a completely different caliber. So rather disappointed.
