A miss from Hooper. Crocodile has all the ingredients that make a fun monster movie, but these are only partially fulfilled. Mediocre.

Typical B-pulp that is, however, hardly enjoyable.

Hooper is a fairly big name in horror film thanks to films like Poltergeist and especially of course The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. However, this film is nowhere near those films. The film is not scary, is bursting with clichés and above all does not know how to entertain very much. The latter is a point that films like this should be most proud of. The only really nice thing about the film is the crocodile itself, which sometimes looks fake, but that is precisely why it provides the best moments in the film. That the crocodile eventually survives is also a plus.

So it's a mediocre film, which unfortunately doesn't entertain enough.

Crocodile may be the worst Hooper movie I've seen so far, but that doesn't take away from the fact that it's still quite entertaining.

The acting is generally crap but the characters, despite not being original, are entertaining. After about 30-45 minutes the croc starts to get really angry and for the first time he comes into full view a few times. The croc consists entirely of very mediocre CGI, but just like with the Lake Placid movies, for example, it isn't terribly disturbing because the rest of the film doesn't take itself very seriously.

The film also has some mistakes and the soundtrack seems to have been stolen from a pharaoh movie. For the observant viewer there are some small details. For example, Hooper refers to his earlier masterpiece The Texas Chain Saw Massacre in Crocodile. When they refuse to push the injured Duncan, who is in a wheelbarrow, he yells Get back and push down. The disabled Franklin says the same to his sister in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre....

Crocodile isn't great anywhere but is nice pulp. Would only recommend going for Hooper's crocodile movie Eaten Alive instead of this one.
