From a theological point of view, I thought this was an interesting film, despite the completely nonsensical plot. This film clearly shows that Roman Catholic teaching has nothing to do with faith, but everything to do with ideology. 'We the RC Church are there for the billion scared souls' one of the cardinals said very aptly at one point. And what are those souls afraid of? Before death, of course. Without fear of death, such institutions would not exist at all. But does that mean that faith is wrong? No, faith is indeed sound, but it is always strictly personal. You are not born with it either, but it is given to you at some point. And as long as that doesn't happen, you can answer the question "Do you believe in God?" really only give a negative answer, as symbologist Robert Langdon rightly did when asked that question. Unfortunately, many people confuse faith with ideology and think that because of, for example, abuses in institutions such as the Roman Catholic Church, faith is the cause of all misery in the world and therefore the world must be helped. The people who claim this have not understood the faith at all.

On the film further because I digress;

visually it all looked quite nice, the Vatican with its pomp and circumstance, the curialists, the cardinals and other dignitaries were very nicely depicted. The atmospheric images of Rome at night also looked very beautiful. So I couldn't do much with the story and I thought that the movie - considerably better "The Da Vinci Code" by the way - also lasted a bit too long although it was quite a good Christmas Eve filling. That usually boring evening flew by very quickly for me.

3.5*

Angels and demons is cinematically in the same vein as The da vinci code: solid without a doubt. Optimally filmed by a professional like Ron Howard and the book brought to the silver screen as best as it could. The line of the book was less followed than in the first film, but it remains a feat to cram Dan Brown's book into roughly 140 film minutes. It can give the impression that everything is going completely loosely and perhaps too quickly. Some background knowledge of the book may therefore be helpful.

What follows is a pleasant viewing game that never bores. You are drawn into the story from the start. Tom Hanks continues to be a miscast for the character Robert Langdon. With his charisma and professional knowledge he tries to make the best of it. The setting with historic Rome and Vatican City is simply wonderful, but that can hardly be called a credit.

Not top notch, but nice and mysterious and full of suspense. You get the facts for nothing and you are sweet for a good two hours. Definitely a pass with 3.0*.

“Religion is flawed. But only because man is flawed. All men, including this one.”

Great movie. Angels & Demons is a film adaptation of a book by Dan Brown, and it has become a smooth adventure film with Robert Langdon who again has to figure out all kinds of riddles and clues to prevent a disaster. This time in Vatican City, and it is almost a character in itself so beautifully the city is portrayed. McGregor stands out in terms of acting, but Hanks, Skarsgård and actress Zurer are also doing well. The pace is high and before you know it the more than two hours are over. That's how I like it.
