Tron: Legacy plot

"The game has changed."

When Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund) is still young, his father Kevin (Jeff Bridges), a computer programmer, disappears. Some 20 years later, Sam is visited by Alan Bradley, a former colleague of his father. Alan claims that Sam's father is still alive and suspects that he can be found in his former arcade hall. Sam doesn't believe that fact much, but investigates anyway. When he finds a hidden room, he is sucked into a virtual reality world. Together with Kevin's confidant Quorra (Olivia Wilde), father and son find themselves in a battle of life and death. They must escape from a cyber world that turns out to be not only very advanced, but also very dangerous.

“Life has a way of moving you past wants and hopes.”

Nice sci-fi movie, that looks really great in the first place. It's just a shame that the story of TRON: Legacy is mediocre, and the characters also remain a bit flat and lack personality. Hedlund, Wilde and Bridges are not bad, but they can't do much with this material either. What remains are the cool action scenes and the beautiful images, and here TRON: Legacy certainly convinces.

Since his wife's death, software designer Kevin Flynn [Jeff Bridges] has increasingly withdrawn into his own world and his relationship with his son Sam [Garrett Hedlund] has deteriorated. But when Kevin disappears without a trace, Sam is the one who discovers that his father is completely absorbed in the virtual world of TRON. Hoping to find his father (and start a new father/son relationship), Sam decides to immerse himself in this world. There, Kevin turns out to be a prisoner of the CLU that he designed himself. Father and son join forces with Quorra [Olivia Wilde] in a battle against the system that allows them to exchange the virtual world for the 'real' world again. Visually overwhelming (especially in 3D) and with a fantastic, pounding soundtrack by the gentlemen of Daft Punk - who have cameos as DJs - and a pleasantly campy role by Michael Sheen, this is a pleasure during action scenes, although the dialogues are not to be overdone. writing home and Hedlund is colorless in the lead role.

Cool review.

Already seen and reviewed a few years ago, but after seeing the original TRON I decided to give this film another chance. It certainly didn't disappoint. In fact, I think I like this movie a bit more than the first part, although that may have been the visual indulgence that continues to speak.

The original was mostly innovative, and that's hard to achieve visually these days. Kosinski seems to know this better than anyone and therefore decides to focus primarily on the design. The digital world is being given a new look and decorated to the bone. Very nice detailing, magisterial colors and the reflections of the almost completely glass world provide a nice extra.

Acting is not very strong and CGI-Bridges is a bit disappointing (although, we are in a game so it makes sense), but otherwise I had nothing to complain about. As far as Kosinski is concerned, this seems to be the most spectacular film to date. After this he seemed to move more towards depth stories, but this film remains spectacular from start to finish and is also not afraid to step over the top.

Beautiful music, beautiful design and a nice tempo. I don't really need to ask for more when I watch a Hollywood movie. Why this one works even better for me is that I really like this kind of environment. Attention to colors and interpretation. I like to see that reflected in films and as far as I'm concerned, a substandard story is easily forgiven. In addition, such scenes as that motorcycle game are always worthwhile. Perhaps not as innovative as the first film in terms of effects, but the modern techniques make it a lot smoother and faster. I like to see it.
