In Time plot

"Time Is Power"

Welcome to a world where time has become the ultimate currency. The aging process stops at age 25, but there's a catch: you're genetically engineered to live one more year unless you can buy off your imminent death. The rich "earn" decades at a time (and stay for 25 years), making them virtually immortal, while the rest beg, borrow, or steal enough hours together to get through the day. When a young man (Timberlake) comes into possession of a fortune in time, he is falsely accused of murder. He is forced to flee with a beautiful hostage (Seyfried). The duo's love, which lives minute by minute, becomes a strong weapon in their war against the system.

“Don't waste my time.”

Interesting movie. In Time has an intriguing story about a future where people have to pay and get paid in life years. When it runs out, you drop dead. There are some snags to the plot, and the logic is sometimes hard to find. Some (at first sight) interesting subplots are also touched on too briefly and it remains with some superficial observations.

The difference between rich and poor, what is a life worth? Why is there only now an uprising? And will Will (Timberlake)'s plan (equality for all) eventually work? These are questions that linger in the air in In Time. Especially in the second part, the movie changes into a standard action/heist movie. There is nothing wrong with that in itself, because it is all entertaining. Timberlake is a decent protagonist, but Seyfried is a lot less and also has a poorly developed role. Murphy and Kartheiser are in good shape again. All in all, the feeling lingers that Niccol could have gotten more out of this.

hmm.

At first, the film felt very much like an episode of Black Mirror. That's exactly my favorite series, so that works in his favor. Only after about 20 minutes this movie falls back into more standard happenings that didn't really benefit the movie.

Timberlake is also a somewhat unusual choice for a lead here. As an actor I never thought he was very special, but in the end there is not too much to complain about. Seyfried looked downright ridiculous, acting was ok, but I couldn't take it seriously at all.

However, the whole world was missing the detail. The poster here on MovieMeter promises some kind of high-tech world, but it looked rather ordinary. Including New Greenwich. The detail is simply missing while the technology is clearly there.

The action isn't too good either. Certainly the CGI lets it down here and there, but the action itself doesn't quickly grab your attention either. It's quite a brave action actually and so it doesn't really stand out. And in terms of science fiction, it lacks some detail that was needed.

But the concept itself is very well thought out and the film manages to get the most power out of that. Once the film falls back into more standard material, it is less noticeable, but in the end the film manages to bring enough nice ideas with it that it always remains fascinating in a certain way.

A good concept is therefore the salvation of the film. The acting is also decent and the first 20 minutes are strong, after that it's not very special anymore unfortunately.

Amanda Seyfried's superb running technique is almost as breathtaking as Allyson Felix's, but it must be added that Amanda had to do it in high heels. Furthermore, I can get lost in Seyfried's beautiful eyes for hours, she can also act phenomenally, so I want to see all her steps on the silver screen with my own eyes.

Dan In Time, a film that I have seen several times, not only for the reasons mentioned above, but mainly because the story uses a fascinating and super simple premise and implements it consistently: time = money = life, making philosophical thoughts from the story self-evident. bubble to the top.

The struggle of and in life from day to day, making ends meet, running for your life, making every second count, death lurking always and everywhere (if you're running out of money, uhh, time), etc. And it is precisely through the realization of the finiteness of existence that life takes on meaning.

The ruling class, those who have seas of time, have devised a $Y$T€€M to keep the people in line; zones. But one chosen, wealthy man manages to invade the ruling class, with all the consequences that entails. Is it a time marxist?

In many ways In Time is a story about Love, Hope and the struggle of the individual against a corrupt regime, and thus in a sense not so far removed from Gattaca. Also not bad is the return of the old style cars with an electric motor.

Furthermore, In Time does not reach the level of the masterpiece Gattaca, but it is and remains a very pleasant viewing experience.
