revised.

What you quickly notice is that the DV quality is really bad. It is a bit difficult in this film, because on the other hand it is also the reason that the film could be made. The shooting at the beginning of the film is based on speed and ease of post-production. Doesn't take away from the fact that it looks overly blurry and fuzzy. Boyle makes the best of it, but it's not pretty.

You recognize many of the zombie tropes that have become popular in the last 10-15 years, yet Boyle's film is still a bit fresher. It has a core of strong actors, a more interesting ending and a build-up of tension that is effective. Anyway, I'm more of a fan of walking zombies instead of the shuffling variant.

The film is rightfully becoming a genre classic. It will never become my favorite niche, but for a zombie movie it is definitely worth it. Even after 16 years of copycats.

4.0* and a extended review

I saw in the credits why I wanted to watch this movie. It belonged to director Danny Boyle. And that is highly regarded by me. But then he shouldn't make too many more of these kinds of films. I have nothing to do with this kind of zombie horror movies. I actually find them appalling and ridiculously infantile. And this film is no exception. Even if it belongs to Danny Boyle. It's all childish and unbelievable. Even though it is psychologically still reasonably worked out in this film and the film also runs by itself. He is fascinating in his own right. And that is the craftsmanship of Danny Boyle. So for the enthusiast it is probably a good film. Although I can't really judge that.
