I think if you watch one of these Hallmark-like productions from Netflix, you can make a pretty good guess as to whether you should stick with it or whether you can tolerate them well. As a big fan of Christmas (movies), I generally get along well with them.

That said, some problems always return. The most common thing is that the cast is often quite mediocre, but in that respect Christmas Inheritance was a breath of fresh air. I already knew Eliza Taylor from her heroic role in The 100 and the bumbling character she portrays here also works extremely well for her. In addition, Jake Lacy is a nice co-star and Andie MacDowell is also nice in her supporting role. Michael Xavier's role may be a bit over-exposed, but I'll happily forgive the film for that. The plot is not very exciting, but the film offers everything that fans are waiting for: Christmas decorations, winter landscapes, a cozy hotel and a nice community within a Mr. Deeds-like town. In short: the Christmas spirit bursts from the screen.

Christmas Inheritance doesn't win the originality prize, but I don't think that was the goal either. The warm atmosphere makes it a sympathetic film that is certainly ideal for these days.

3*

Now that there have been a few cold days in April, it was once again an ideal time to experience a bit of Christmas nostalgia.

This Christmas Inheritance was a pleasant surprise. Everything that a Christmas film must meet can be neatly ticked off and if you are in the mood for it, this is a pleasant Christmas film. The film is of course very sweet, but the acting was very good. The images are very atmospheric and engaging and the moments of annoyance were kept to a minimum.

The two leading actors performed charmingly and the supporting roles were also well cast. Special mention deserves Andie MacDowell who plays a very sympathetic role.

Among the overwhelming selection of television Christmas films, this is one of the better ones.

Above average.

Now available on Netflix.
