Bad Christmas movie.

Trying to emulate that old atmosphere (sometimes very striking, the moment the sled crashes seems to come from some 80s movie, deliberately bad effects?), but with some modern elements, which seem very forced .

The Santa Claus who eats healthy, shouts fake news and has his own Christmas smartwatch ... these are ideas that you hope to delete after a brainstorm, but apparently there were no more. Then let it be and let Kurt Russell perform another wrong "modern" (but not really) version of a Christmas song.

The director of Angry Bird said you? Well yes, that explains a lot. Russell is annoying, the kids are annoying, side characters are very annoying and the CG of those elves is cheap. Nah, this kind of half-hearted stuff isn't for me.

1.0*

Kurt Russell in a Christmas movie has got to be just about the casting choice I've been most looking forward to since Samuel L. Jackson in "Snakes on a Plane" (2006). And 'The Christmas Chronicles' (2018) does indeed work because its version of Santa Claus has an unpredictable and raw edge. Although the two child actors are secretly also quite happy when the dysfunctional two are condemned to each other, but cannot live without each other either. Against the sluggish Christmas atmosphere are the sharp relationships between brother and sister, who are sometimes unreasonably mean to each other. Although it is a pity that in the end it turns out to be more of a family film than a black comedy, with a slightly too clear moral. But the completely bizarre prison performance with Kurt Russell is the new 'I have had it with these motherfucking snakes on this motherfucking plane!' It's unexpected and makes no sense, but I rolled off the couch laughing.

I wanted to catch this Christmas movie at the last minute. I haven't seen many Christmas movies in my life, but this one is pretty good. Also thanks to Kurt Russell who plays a wonderful Santa. The Christmas chronicles is a more than successful Christmas film with lots of fun moments in which a couple of children have the night of their lives by going on an adventure on Christmas Eve.

At times also funny, a bit of drama, a bit wild, but above all a lot of fun where you won't be bored for a second. An ideal family film for young and old, too bad I didn't see it a few weeks ago. Lots of clichés and very sentimental, of course, but that's part and parcel of a Christmas movie. I found the elves more a minus than a windfall. Fortunately, Russell makes up for a lot. Cool!
