The Void is quite an ambitious project. The director duo has managed to create a wonderful mix between some body horror and the mysterious.

A lot has been done with practical effects. Makes the whole thing feel much more real than movies that use a lot of CGI, especially CGI blood. The story is quite simple, but it is told in an effective way. The film does not take the time to introduce many characters or directly tell you what is going on. You get into it almost immediately. Although at times the directors want to put too much into the film, which is counterproductive. But overall it remains fascinating and entertaining. The gore looks great and the story is very nice. The synth score brings a lot of atmosphere to the film and the editing is very good. The ending could have been a little more mysterious. Unfortunately, too much is given away. But despite that, The Void is a great film and it is going to get a large group of fans. It also has the potential to become a cult film.

More of this!

Awesome!

And a big nod to the horror films of the 80s, especially Carpenter... At least, that's already stated on the cover. Simple story, masterful execution.

After an ultra-violent opening, we find ourselves in a doctor's clinic. Commitment; an intern, an incest relationship (grandfather and pregnant granddaughter), and police officer Daniel with his newly picked-up victim. It soon becomes apparent that the victim is much wanted by two maddened villains. Well, a hostage situation follows .... but then it turns out that the villains are not after money and power. And before we know it, the clinic is surrounded by members of the Ku Klux Klan... (well, with those black triangles on the masks)... and a staff member turned into an oversized monster.

And before we know it, we've literally ended up in hell and it's going to be a wonderfully bloody feast... Mind you, it's not endless banging, shooting and chopping like in From Tusk Till Dawn... No... Here the directors to keep it quite subtle. Also, no character seems to be trusted and things only get more bizarre... Especially when there seems to be a lower floor in the clinic that wasn't already on the floor plan. Mainly Daniel is the cool cop here, but those two thugs manage to steal the reels. Especially when it turns out that they are victims. The evil itself here is not only physical, but, of course, also supernatural... The transformation of that granddaughter is the ultimate example.

Yes, and the food is difficult with this film. The gore is plentiful here... the monsters are nauseating and... well, nothing is shunned.

A delightful, intense horror slasher.

4.5*

I'm keeping the fucking gun.

Haha yes, what is it, huh! The Void is an overcrowded film with all kinds of influences and elements from other films and it's not so much that it has a firm own stamp, but man oh man, it has all been done effectively.

Fleshy, gory gore, slimy tentacles, occult affairs, paranoia and claustrophobia, torture porn and an atmosphere indebted to sci-fi horror.

The disbelief can be read on the faces of the characters several times (excellent acting) and as a viewer you can really only follow them, because the film is not only unpredictable; it also always finds a new superlative.

Towards the end, some may be a little crippled by its multiplicity and derailing vagueness. There may be more lines thrown out than picked up, but I'm 100% happy with the outcome.

Open-mouthed enjoyed a stylistically solid, overly filthy horror film with artistic undertones. Cult status guaranteed. 4.5*
