Doctor John Markway investigates apparitions and invites a number of people to the Hill House mansion under the false pretense of assisting him in investigating the phenomenon of 'anxiety'. Robert Wise excels in 'The Haunting' with inventive camera angles, hallucinatory images on a spiral staircase, the visualization of temperature differences and the creation of uncertainty about the day and night rhythm. Horror at its best, based mostly on suggestion and raising the question of whether it's all really happening or just in the protagonist's mind. Two years later, Wise perfected everything even further with the ultimate horror classic 'The Sound Of Music'.

Finally watched it, but given its status, this film failed to live up to the high expectations.
The atmosphere, the haunted house and the black and white photography are indeed impressive.
But the story didn't really grab me. Mainly long-winded and not exciting at all.
In terms of horror elements, very mediocre, but okay ... I'm not going to criticize the film because the atmosphere, as said, makes the balance positive. I thought the acting was solid, even though the main character's role is quite over it, but it suited the story and its elaboration. I thought the ending was poorly developed.

Reasonable film about a woman who receives an invitation to participate in an experiment in an old, large house. Beautiful camera work that, together with the decoration of the house, provide an attractive whole. Some good dialogues about the supernatural. Mainly because the main character is quite annoying, just short of 3.5 stars.
