Exciting thriller about forgotten child star Baby Jane, which years later, the stops are blown. Unfortunately for her disabled sister Blanche, she is completely dependent on the unstable Jane. The whole thing reminded me a lot of Stephen King's Misery, another good movie.

Apparently Bette Davis and Joan Crawford didn't get along well in real life either, and that translates well to the film in my opinion. If horror has a face, it's Davis' face. Fantastic acting, what a creep. The unpredictability, the schizophrenic behavior, the shrill voice, the tantrums and the eyes popping out of her head; it's not a grandma you visit for fun. The lighting also stands out, which makes her face even scarier.

But Joan Crawford also plays a good role. I soon got to grips with her, so helpless and trapped. The ending with the twist, however, lacked its effect. I feel Crawford is still a victim of her sister's atrocities. But once more look up Davis, like The Nanny and Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte.

“My name is Jane Hudson. maybe you remember me? I'm Baby Jane Hudson.”

What a great actress Bette Davis is. I wonder if What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? would have worked without Davis's input, because it is her acting that makes the film rise above average. There is also a certain twist towards the end on the beach, and it makes you suddenly look at everything that preceded it with different eyes.

Joan Crawford acts somewhat flat and is overshadowed by Davis, but that can of course also be the role. The story isn't very special and has some plot holes (the long running time is also problematic), but I was still intrigued by Jane and her psychopathic and manic actions and thoughts.

Film that would have had more if the running time was a lot shorter and if Blanche wasn't such an easy prey. "Then call on your neighbor" I thought a few times.

All in all, the film is quite exciting and it never really gets boring.
