Watched this movie with a lot of effort. Far too long-winded and far too serious, all as if the director wanted you to believe that paranormal nonsense was actually based on fact. Not so, my opinion is that everything you saw as a result of that invisible force took place in Carla's head. All hallucinations, nothing more. Recognizable for me too, but of course it can never happen in reality. I therefore thought that what was stated in the credits was a joke.

On the positive side, you were treated to a few big scares under an ominous score. That only worked for me in the beginning. At some point it didn't bother me anymore. Oh well, we get used to it, shall we say. But enough said, this kind of horror doesn't work for me. For me, a horror film consists of 100% fantasy that has nothing to do with reality. And rightly so.

Interesting, but not interesting enough.

For example, this film of no less than 2 hours is not always interesting enough and especially the finale is quite a damper of a reasonably constructed story. Especially some special directing choices provide a fairly special atmosphere throughout the film.

But it's a shame that it didn't get much further than a reasonably executed haunted house movie. Some nice finds in the story don't change this either and then those 2 hours pass a bit slowly.

And why does this take 2 hours again. The story doesn't have much to say, the acting is okay but not intriguing, and visually the film isn't much more than the general noise films from the 80s in some nice moments.

Still a reasonable story that manages to captivate just enough without losing your attention very much. That's not to say, however, that I sometimes had serious trouble keeping my attention. Especially in the first part. You don't get much more horror than being raped 5x by a ghost with special rock music. That trick is also repeated a bit too much.

The second part is also not much more interesting, but there is something more happening that also distinguishes the film from other films. However, I did not find it credible. I found the romance too clumsy and the directing choices too unusual for that. Certainly that rock music sucks the subtle away so that a believable or realistic feeling didn't quickly occur to me.

In the end it turned out to be quite a decent movie, but despite it being quite unusual, I didn't think it rose anywhere above the average haunted house movies. Sometimes I find such 80s horror nostalgic, but unfortunately this one is not an example in those films.

A film that surprised me positively by several points:
you are immediately confronted with the aggressive evil entity, no unnecessary run-up...
apparently it is based on true events, although you have to approach it with a critical attitude, but still... you can find enough information about it on the internet. The woman in question also left for Texas afterwards and died in 2006. The evil entity would have been less frequent with her. Imagine ...
good acting, especially Barbara Hershey who had to play a few fierce scenes naked
the various assaults are well depicted and are important to get into the story and experience the impotence of Carla Moran
also the awareness about the negative attitudes around the event, whether or not to accept other people and how they deal with it is well brought
the sound is powerful and important in this film, it gives the film a certain creepy atmosphere.
7/10
